چکیده
Limonia acidissima (L.), Wood-Apple, is an underexploited and edible fruit of family Rutacae which can be consumed either in raw or ripe form. In northern parts of India, which is locally called Kaitha. In the present work, we have attempted to study different characteristics of pulp and rind (outer shell) of Kaitha fruit, to understand its health benefits. Various studies were done to estimate phytochemicals like alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, total phenolics. Nutritional analysis of pulp proved it to be a potential source of energy, proteins, dietary fiber, vitamins; ascorbic acid, thiamine, riboflavin, and betacarotene and minerals; phosphorous, magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc. The extracts displayed a moderate antioxidant activity. The pulp exhibited good antibacterial activity against gram positive bacteria. This study demonstrates that L. acidissima fruits may be used as nutraceuticals for disease prevention and health promoting benefits.

The preliminary phytochemical analysis of Limonia acidissima plant parts such as bark, leaf, rind, pulp and seed showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, glycosides, phenols, gum and mucilage, fixed oils and fats, resins and tannins. Among the five plant parts, pulp possessed high amount of protein and the carbohydrate content was more in seeds and rind is rich was amin...
متن کاملAntioxidant Activity and Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using the Leaf Extract of Limonia Acidissima
A green synthesis of silver nanoparticles was done using a particular plant extract of Limonia acidissima. Silver nanoparticles were synthesised by the bioreduction of silver nitrate using different concentrations of plant extract, and UV–visible spectral analysis was carried out to confirm the formation of silver nanoparticles. The presence of various phytochemicals like flavonoids, steroids, ...
متن کاملA green approach to synthesize controllable silver nanostructures from Limonia acidissima for inactivation of pathogenic bacteria
Controllable silver nanoparticles were developed by a green approach using extracts of both leaves and bark of Limonia acidissima tree. Due to the presence of phytochemical compounds in L. acidissima leaves and bark; such as saponins, phenolic compounds, phytosterols, and quinines present in extracts act as reductants, hence the silver nanoparticles were easily produced under mild conditions. T...
متن کامل"Estimation of nutritional, phytochemical, antioxidant and antibacterial activity of dried fig (Ficus carica)"
The present investigation deals with the nutritional, phytochemical, antioxidant and antibacterial activity of dried fruit of fig (Ficus carica) commonly known as “Anjir” in India. The nutritional profiling of the dried fig fruit indicates that it is a good source of carbohydrates and minerals like strontium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron. It has average protein and dietary fiber cont...
